Wolfmother

So last night i seen Wolfmother and damn it was epic!

It was further away than i usually go for gigs so my dad drove me and two friends there: guy called Steve, and Louis whose first gig it was.

My dad wasn't sure what to do while we were there but in the end he decided to get a ticket at the doors and watch from the seats so that was cool.

However, since i received my tickets back in April, i was suspicious of them. They were badly printed and also lacking a bar code whilst others around us in the queue generally had tickets with bar codes on them so going up to the door to get in i was quite apprehensive.

In the end, we did get in but obviously the venue knew that some tickets were badly printed so had back-ups for those that had them. It was rather irksome though because if we had just went straight in without waiting around to get in, we would have got on the barrier, like i did last time i seen Wolfmother, but this time that didn't happen.

Damn you, Ticketmaster!

Anyway, we were pretty much down the front so i was happy enough.

The support band were nothing special. Band called Turbogeist, just really a wall of noise. Think they should work on their live act coz their stuido stuff sounds decent.

Wolfmother came on not long after them and it was intense!

Coz it was such a small gig, you get to look at the lead singer in the eyes while he looks at you playing one of your favourite songs. Words. Can't. Describe.

I imagined Louis didn't quite know what to expect as it was his first gig so i wasn't surprised to find out later that he retreated further back from the front :P

Steve's a bit of a madman at gigs tho and tends to be in the moshpits etc. He was even crowdsurfing at one point! Loony.

I was all over the place to be honest. I started right in the middle down the front, then i was slowly shifted over to the left about halfway through and when Colossal ended the main set and it was all-out fucking brawl. The whole place was just a pit. Nearly fell on my arse as well but managed to grab onto someone :P

Got myself out of there for the encore and ended up over towards the right hand side of the stage somehow :S

Like last time, i'd say Colossal was the best song. Everyone just goes mental!

Was annoyed that security didn't hand out cups of water though coz i was dying in there: crushed, no air, no space. Trickle of water woulda done me fine but nah, not a sausage.

Also, coz i wasn't on the barrier, i didn't really have an opportunity to get my camera out without fear of dropping it, so i don't really have any pictures to show.

Compared to the last Wolfmother gig, id say this one wasn't as good.
The support band were average here, plus i didn't get their setlist like i did last time.
Didn't get on the barrier like i had planned.
Security didn't give out drinks.
Wolfmother's set wasn't brilliant.

It wasn't amazing last time either, and in general they don't play great sets. The reason is that they tend to go into really long on-stage jams which are cool but i'd much rather see more songs to be honest. They played 14 songs last time and 12 here. However, they did briefly cover The Beatles' "Dear Prudence" and The Doors, "Riders on the Storm".

However, for a band with 2 studio albums and over 25 songs, id have hoped for more than 12.
The only song they played here they didn't last time was Mind's Eye.

I'll stop moaning coz it still was an awesome night, just could have been better but certainly worth 20 pounds.

Then again Biffy was 20 pounds and played 25 songs... right, i'll stop, i'll stop! ;D

I enjoyed my night and that's whats important!

Spanish Exam and More Cinema

Meant to post this yesterday but didn't for some reason.

Anyway, my exams are now over and i feel a sense of freedom somewhat. I will feel a greater sense of that in a few weeks coz i am back to school for the start of a new year on Monday. It will be a taster as to what my 5th year in high school will be like.

But that's Monday, my final exam (Spanish) was yesterday and it went pretty much without any problems. Louis gave me a lift to school and we went into the exam room feeling pretty confident and rightly so. The reading was easy, the writing was easy, only the listening proved a little difficult but Louis and I both feel confident of getting an A.

After it, there was a big meet-up of quite a number of people in the year for playing football and lazing around on the grassy area not far from the school. It was great, and one of the hottest days of the year so far. It wasn't hot when i left the house so i didn't pack shorts. Whoops. )I did get a little burnt tho, bit of colour in me hehe)
Apart from that it was great fun, just being with friends, having fun, celebrating the end of the exams. Steven wasn't even there!

He wasn't around today either! I got invited to the cinema again and without hesitation i accepted that invite. Alan was there, Louis was there, Alex was there and so were a few other people.
It was quite funny, i said to Alex i would meet him at his house and we would go down to the train station together. When i got to his house he invited me in for a game of football on his ps3, which, in the end, caused us to miss our train :P
We were just rounding the corner to the train station and we seen the train sitting there with the doors open, we ran full pelt to it but two seconds before we got to the doors, they closed and the train pulled away.
Since it didn't matter too much, we laughed about it, the next train wasn't long after that thankfully.
So yeah, we caught the next train and Alan got on this one too, sat beside him again :D
There were 7 of us today as opposed to 5 on Thursday but it was all good, great fun.
Like last time, i wasn't bothered about what we seen and it ended up being what we didn't see the other day - Prince of Persia, starring....Jake Gyllenhall, who also starred in....Brokeback Mountain :P
The cinema was a lot busier tho, so the 7 of us got a bit split up looking for seats, i didn't get to sit beside Alan again (one of these days i will!!!)

I thought the film was ok, although others said it was crap. As i said, im not bothered, i watch quite a lot of films so it would have to be really crap for me not to sit through one. I think i enjoyed The Losers more tho.
After the film, everyone just walked around town for a bit again, went into a few music stores and caught the train home. Another enjoyable day out i would say.

The past few days have been surprisingly social for me to be honest, its not often i got into town twice in a week and i have done twice in the past 3 days.
Just relaxing a little now my exams are over i suppose and what better way to celebrate than being with your friends?
I also want to thank all you guys for your support over the past few months, it has been quite a long slog but i'm finished now and all your kind words and encouragement have been most welcome, means a lot, so cheers!
But my cousin is now about to start her month of exams, so if you will please, be enouraging to her too coz exams can get pretty stressing but i'm sure she can do it!

I suppose you'll all be happy to hear that my exams are over as well, i know it probably got a little boring and monotonous reading about them all the time but it's all done now until next year :)

Hugs,
Rowan

Not a big fan of Status Quo but i recently found this fun song by them called Burning Bridges. It's a really cheery and sort of celebration sounding thing. Suppose you could say it's been my song for the past couple of days :P
Don't think it's very well known but i remember Muse played it as a little jam when i went to see them, i like it.

Louis' House

Today was another scorching day, just like yesterday. It has been really sunny here recently, makes a change for once.

I went to Louis' house today, had planned to for ages but the main aim of my visit was actually for studying.

I haven't ever actually properly studied like that before with another person but i found that it worked quite well. Must have done at least three hours of modern studies in the time i was there and that's quite something i think coz Louis has quite a lot of distractions in his house (pool table, PS3, Mac, loads of garden space....a grand piano lol)

He might have a lot of stuff in his house but not in his room. No tv for one thing so that's good. Also, you might think on a sunny day, being stuck inside would be awful but it wasn't. He has like slanted windows which open way out so you can still sit inside and study and it does kinda feel like you're outside.

Yeh, i love his house :P

It wasn't all work tho, we took a good 30 min break twice probably. Played some football, went on the trampoline, had dinner outside in the sun (2nd night in a row :D) so yes, i suppose you could say i enjoyed studying!

Louis must love it, he's got a perfect study room lol.

Today was good preparation for next week though. Modern studies, media studies and biology this week, the week i have been dreading ever since the timetablee were issued.
I need to work my ass off tomorrow studying so i'm hoping it rains like hell.
Got 3 subjects to revise, probably need to spend at least 2 hours on each :-/
Ho hum, it'll be over soon i suppose. Come Friday, i'll only have one exam left, and a week until it is upon me as well so there are a few positives i can take, can't just contemplate the negatives.

This all means i might not be able to post this week, might have to wait until Friday and it'll just be one big post. Who knows, i might be able to squeeze a little post in each night. We'll see....

Hugs,
Rowan

English Exam

I was gonna post this yessterday but i just wanted to relax after it all, it was quite a tiring ordeal.

I woke up feeling ok, did an hour or two of revision coz the exam didn't start until 1pm, but as the hours wound down i grew more steadily nervous. After all, it was my first proper, big exam in a way. (Music was only 45 minutes)

My dad gave me a lift into school and wished me good luck, i went in and met everyone at our usual table in the cafeteria.
Get this, Alan's birthday was yesterday, the day of the exam!
Unlucky.
My nerves were really building by about 30 mins before so i opened some fruit pastilles and chewed away and then loads were asking for some lol.
I shared and gave one to a few people (two for Alan :P)

Then we were told to make our way to the english rooms (where all exams are to be held) Everyone just kinda fell silent and entered their designated rooms.

The first part was a close reading, basically, you study a passage of an article taken from somewhere and answer questions on it.
Our passage was about an ancient Chinese emperor named Qin, not the most fascinating topic but i at least managed to answer all the questions in time. It was fair, some parts were tough and some were easy.

The close reading is regarded as easy coz it settles you in for what is in store after the 15 minute break, the essays.

During the break i just chewed on some more pastilles and went back into the room, feeeling neither confident nor nervous this time.

I had three texts prepared to write an essay on but you only write two in the exam, the third is a back-up.
The questions you need to base the essay on are all unseen so i was hoping for some luck with the questions and i got them. Nearly all questions suited Sailmaker (drama) and Jekyll and Hyde (prose) so i didn't need to worry about writing on To a Mouse (poetry)

I started with Sailmaker and got tht finished in about 40 minutes, leaving me a full 50 for Jekyll and Hyde, so i took it a bit slower coz i was getting tired and my right arm was killing me!

Again, i finished both essays so i was quite happy with that. Just need to hope that what i wrote made sense, it did at the time but i can't really say whether i feel confident or not about the results. I have no idea, just need to wait until August 5th....

But on the whole, i think it went well tho. I answered everything i needed to and at the end of the day, you can't really do much more than that, i gave it my best and im having a day off today.

Next week i have french on Tuesday and maths on Friday. French is something you can't (and i dont really need to) study for. So this next week i will be focusing hard on maths, which is a bit of a strange one to study for too.

2 exams down, 6 to go....

Cheers,
Rowan

P.S I've never been a big fan of Red Hot Chilli Peppers but my friend, Louis, showed me this song called Readymade and i thought it was pretty good so there's the vid below.

Awesome bass line :D

Easter School (Eugh.) and Britain's "Gay Capital"

I woke up this morning (somehow) and the first thing i knew was that i had Easter School to go to today.
Not helped by the fact that the rain was extremely heavy and i didn't get to sleep until at least 2am, so i only got about 5 hours sleep. (I swear msn will be the death of me :P)

I quickly jumped in the shower, got out, dried my hair, had some cereal then went out the door. Luckily my dad was on hand to give me a lift but regardless, i was still in a very zombie-like state.

So when i got to school i eventually livened up a bit, there were more people who i get on with who i didn't expect to be there. Alex was there, Louis was there, Steven wasn't haha, actually i have a funny story about him but i'll tell it later on.

My first class was english, and these aren't normal 50-minute lessons, one class lasts the whole morning (9-12) and the other lasts the whole afternoon (12:30-15:30)
Good thing i got to sit beside Alex, but it was also quite a handy lesson.
The teacher went over the best ways to answer questions from an unseen passage and, admittedly, i did find it quite useful.
One point we were talking about a journalist describing George Bush as a political dinosaur (as you do), then she put me on the spot and asked me another way to describe a dinosaur and i just blurted out "Prehistoric animal" without even thinking....
Got a well done from her and a few nods of approval from other people lol, i was quite chuffed with that :)
Not much else to mention about english tho, was rather uneventful apart from that.

At lunch, i just made a quick trip to cafe as there wasn't enough time to go to the shops on the main road and i returned for 3 hours of maths, what fun....

Sat beside Alex again this time, as well as Louis.
It was quite a good lesson too, the more maths i do, the more i will learn obviously, and therefore increase my mark in the final exam here's hoping.

Overall, Easter School was quite a good thing i think. I'll be back in tomorrow for modern studies in the morning and biology i think next monday afternoon.

But with today's lessons all done with, the only thing left to do was return home so Alex, Alan (the cutie :D) and i got the train home.
Alan had to get off early :(
Me and Alex got off the next stop which is actually one stop before mine but i wasn't gonna let Alex walk home in the rain by himself of course.

So i got drenched. But it was worth it, we stopped caring about the weather and just started laughing about what's been happening with Steven and a three-legged dog we seen being walked in the street lol, which then moved onto a conversation about a no-legged dog being transported around on a skateboard lmao, ahhh good times.
We parted ways tho, still laughing about Steven.

So here's the story :

For the past few days, Steven has been in Brighton. Brighton is also renowned for being the "gay capital" of Britain.
Steven goes down there with his dad maybe once or twice a year as his grandparents live there.
So anyway, he has been sending me a few texts one saying that the weather was sunny, 27 degrees celcius and another said "English girls are hot and think i'm hot too"
Lol, you wish Steven.
So i thought i would share some of these texts around with a few friends coz i just knew the reception they would get.
And i was right, everybody just laughed lol.
So i sent a text back saying that 27 degrees celcius doesn't exist in Britain, let alone in April.
And he's all "Well my granda's barometer is really accurate"
"What? More accurate than the Met Office?"

So everyone was laughing at the crap he was spouting there.
But of course, the main point is Steven and his dad actually being in the so-called "gay capital" of Britain.
Two of the most unlikely people you would think of going there.
And then, before he goes there, being all talk as usual, he's giving it large about how he's gonna go to Brighton and turn everyone straight "the way they should be"
Aye, just get walking.
Pretty glad to see the back of him last week to be honest :P

Wish i had grandparents in Brighton lol, that would be cool.
Funnily enough, one of my cousins goes to university in Brighton....wait a minute....naah, she's got a boyfriend from what i know :P

And speaking of cousins, in a few posts time i have something very cool to mention about when i will be seeing them next, it's gonna be cool!

Love you guys,
Rowan

Hehe :P

Just gotta love that guitar solo, no?
One of Queen's longest from what i know.....
