Louis' House

Today was another scorching day, just like yesterday. It has been really sunny here recently, makes a change for once.

I went to Louis' house today, had planned to for ages but the main aim of my visit was actually for studying.

I haven't ever actually properly studied like that before with another person but i found that it worked quite well. Must have done at least three hours of modern studies in the time i was there and that's quite something i think coz Louis has quite a lot of distractions in his house (pool table, PS3, Mac, loads of garden space....a grand piano lol)

He might have a lot of stuff in his house but not in his room. No tv for one thing so that's good. Also, you might think on a sunny day, being stuck inside would be awful but it wasn't. He has like slanted windows which open way out so you can still sit inside and study and it does kinda feel like you're outside.

Yeh, i love his house :P

It wasn't all work tho, we took a good 30 min break twice probably. Played some football, went on the trampoline, had dinner outside in the sun (2nd night in a row :D) so yes, i suppose you could say i enjoyed studying!

Louis must love it, he's got a perfect study room lol.

Today was good preparation for next week though. Modern studies, media studies and biology this week, the week i have been dreading ever since the timetablee were issued.
I need to work my ass off tomorrow studying so i'm hoping it rains like hell.
Got 3 subjects to revise, probably need to spend at least 2 hours on each :-/
Ho hum, it'll be over soon i suppose. Come Friday, i'll only have one exam left, and a week until it is upon me as well so there are a few positives i can take, can't just contemplate the negatives.

This all means i might not be able to post this week, might have to wait until Friday and it'll just be one big post. Who knows, i might be able to squeeze a little post in each night. We'll see....

Rowan

English Exam

I was gonna post this yessterday but i just wanted to relax after it all, it was quite a tiring ordeal.

I woke up feeling ok, did an hour or two of revision coz the exam didn't start until 1pm, but as the hours wound down i grew more steadily nervous. After all, it was my first proper, big exam in a way. (Music was only 45 minutes)

My dad gave me a lift into school and wished me good luck, i went in and met everyone at our usual table in the cafeteria.
Get this, Alan's birthday was yesterday, the day of the exam!
Unlucky.
My nerves were really building by about 30 mins before so i opened some fruit pastilles and chewed away and then loads were asking for some lol.
I shared and gave one to a few people (two for Alan :P)

Then we were told to make our way to the english rooms (where all exams are to be held) Everyone just kinda fell silent and entered their designated rooms.

The first part was a close reading, basically, you study a passage of an article taken from somewhere and answer questions on it.
Our passage was about an ancient Chinese emperor named Qin, not the most fascinating topic but i at least managed to answer all the questions in time. It was fair, some parts were tough and some were easy.

The close reading is regarded as easy coz it settles you in for what is in store after the 15 minute break, the essays.

During the break i just chewed on some more pastilles and went back into the room, feeeling neither confident nor nervous this time.

I had three texts prepared to write an essay on but you only write two in the exam, the third is a back-up.
The questions you need to base the essay on are all unseen so i was hoping for some luck with the questions and i got them. Nearly all questions suited Sailmaker (drama) and Jekyll and Hyde (prose) so i didn't need to worry about writing on To a Mouse (poetry)

I started with Sailmaker and got tht finished in about 40 minutes, leaving me a full 50 for Jekyll and Hyde, so i took it a bit slower coz i was getting tired and my right arm was killing me!

Again, i finished both essays so i was quite happy with that. Just need to hope that what i wrote made sense, it did at the time but i can't really say whether i feel confident or not about the results. I have no idea, just need to wait until August 5th....

But on the whole, i think it went well tho. I answered everything i needed to and at the end of the day, you can't really do much more than that, i gave it my best and im having a day off today.

Next week i have french on Tuesday and maths on Friday. French is something you can't (and i dont really need to) study for. So this next week i will be focusing hard on maths, which is a bit of a strange one to study for too.

2 exams down, 6 to go....

Cheers,
Rowan

P.S I've never been a big fan of Red Hot Chilli Peppers but my friend, Louis, showed me this song called Readymade and i thought it was pretty good so there's the vid below.

Awesome bass line :D

Easter "Holidays" and Plastic Drums (aka Handy Headsets)

School has wrapped up for 2 weeks now, good times.

Or is it?

Suppose it must be but there is the little matter of studying and easter school to contend with.

First exam (music) is 26 days away. A scary thought.

Gotta get studying, but that will happen at the start of next week.
After such a horrendous week i feel i am due a break.
What with feeling ill and the mutiple tests....

So i did absolutely nothing today, still trying to get back to 100% really, and i've decided that i'm having the weekend off too.
Enjoy the weekend, stuff my face with chocolate eggs on Sunday and get my head down on Monday.

Then Tuesday, i will be going to easter school.
I have an english class in the morning (9am - noon) then maths class in the afternoon (12:30pm - 15:30) so all of that and i only getting a half an hour break :/
I will have a modern studies class and a biology class too i think but i will find that out for sure on tuesday.
It's all for a good cause tho, mainly for maths, coz i'm ok on english and modies.

I'm noticing a slight improvement in maths tbh.
The first test i did on Tuesday was fairly easy, even for me, but there was a question in it i dont think i could have even attempted a few weeks ago.
Second paper on Wednesday was more difficult tho and the one yesterday was difficult too but i think i'll get an extra 10 minutes to finish it, maybe on Tuesday, coz school finished 10 mins early yesterday.
Got good feedback from the 1st paper tho, not the final mark, but the teacher said i done well in it! :D

But back to these holidays.
I don't have many plans apart from studying and easter school. I'm sure there'll be a day or two tho for some footy with some of my friends and i think i'm going round to Alex's house with my bass one day.

....

Have i ever mentioned that i do that sometimes?
Have i even mentioned Alex plays guitar?

Well, if not, i'll say it now, Alex plays guitar and sometimes i go round to his and we mess about on the bass and guitar, playing along to songs.
Will be a bit more difficult now coz of my new big amp (that causes too much fugging noise :P) and also coz of upcoming exams which is why i havent been over for a while.

So apart from studying, school, maybe football and maybe some guitar, my holiday doesn't consist of much.

A cool thing happened last night tho that i want to talk about.
I've never had a headset for my computer and i never, until last night, intended to get one.
So i was browsing ebay, amazon etc. and then out of the corner of my eye i spot my xbox headset lying on my desk.

Hmmmm.....

So i did some research online and tried using my brother's play and charge kit to plug the controller into the PC. This did work but it has to be a fully wired controller to work properly, of which i dont have.
Back to ebay, amazon etc.

And then out of the corner of my eye i spot my rock band drum set lying in the corner of the room.

Hmmmm.....

They're wired, they have a headset socket and a USB connection so i tried.

And it worked!

Lol thats right, i have my headset working on my computer via a set of plastic drums....

What? I saved money!
Don't need to buy the headset now.
Although it does mean i need to have the drum set sitting next to me to use the headset so i suppose i can pick up a cheap wired xbox controller instead.
But i'm still really happy that i got it working, without asking anybody's help and did it for free.

....Also....managed to.... send...some....voice clips....to....somebody :D

Hehe

So that worked out great.
Those plastic drums really are useful.
I am rather good on them too :P
I play expert on Rock Band, probably coz i'm quite sad but at the same time its still is quite a skill, one that i have managed to convert onto real drums too.

So saying that, i shall leave with what is my favourite song to play on Rock Band at the moment. Not just is it fun to play but it has a great bassline, great drum solo, great guitar solo.....blah, blah, blah :P

It's Tom Sawyer by Rush :)

Cheers,
Rowan

Here's a better video but it doesn't allow you to embed it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7DFsBcVMDA

You can see the whole drum solo on tht video and it just amazes me....

Need to listen to more Rush me thinks :P

Love you guys

Steven's House

I always enjoy going to my friend Steven's house, it's laugh after laugh and great fun excluding all the racism and homophobia etc.

And i was off to stay again yesterday, in celebration of his birthday.
Alex came too and Steven's brother was around as well.
We didn't go to his house straight away, he picked me up at about 11am, then Alex, then off to this big fun centre place with loads of different places inside. (forgot it's name =P)

We played crazy golf firstly, which was awesome, i played not bad, neither did Steven, Alex played a stinker but Steven's dad won in the end.
Just loads of banter flying around though so the final score wasn't all that important but about halfway through, an incident occured. This group of 2 or 3 young children were running around and getting in the way, so Steven's dad told them to stop or else he would "wrap the gold club around their head"

Smooth.

Coz near the end of our round, their parents approached us and had a go at Steven's dad. He argued that they shouldn't have been unsupervised in the first place, but he was the one that threatened them at the end of the day.
It was quite a serious although funny thing to watch but ultimately, they were both in the wrong.

(Anyway, i've learnt from that that Steven's dad doesn't take any shit, you don't wanna mess with him.)

With that all behind us, we headed for Burger King and then went Ten-Pin Bowling.

Now, i never considered myself to be any good at it, and i was secretly not looking forward to it (would happily have gone straight home) but i surprised myself!
And i would have won, if it weren't for Steven's brother using the barriers to stop his ball rolling off =P

I enjoyed it again and found i was actually not bad at it (got 3 strikes!) the rest played averagely (haha) apart from Alex who again played awful lol.

To add to things, the parents and their children at the crazy golf showed up in the lane next us (call it a coincidence) but they never said anything.

:S

They clearly weren't bothered about earlier and were just trying to make something big out of nothing at all.

So, after this we headed to Steven's house and listened to Muse in the car, us three looking like loonies bouncing around in the back lol.

When we got there, the Arsenal game was put on.

Wasn't too exciting.
Me and Alex cheered when West Ham scored just to piss off Steven and his dad but Arsenal went onto win 2-1.

Not much happened after that until later but it marked the start of Steven and his dad sharing their discrimination when they felt necessary.
And they clearly felt very necessary.

Now i admit, while they can be funny, what they said kinda got to me but i just sorta pretended to laugh and didn't say anything to add to it.

The house seems works on a "whatever you want to say, say it....as long as it's rude and insulting" policy.

I didn't really chip in.

Honestly.

But some of the things said were a bit much.
I know to expect that in Steven's house but it still annoys me, it's the only downside really.

Things like :

Muslims offering their sons to Hamas as suicide bombers cause they found that there sons were gay.

(Double whammy there)

This was said by Steven in front of his dad as well. He doesn't care what you say, there are no rules there which is cool but it means things like that are said.

Unfortunately, it didn't get much better.

After his dad went to bed the porn channel was put on.

*Yawn*

Then more gay jokes started - mostly from Steven.

*Yawn*

The matresses were placed in the living room for the three of us, so we had the big tv and wouldn't disturb anyone else.

It was getting late and the porn and gay jokes weren't entertaining me at all so i went to sleep, leaving them to say what they liked.

But this is where the worrying part happened.

I woke up at some point and the tv was still on and they were still talking, so i just pretended to be asleep, but they were talking about me....rather, talking about my sexual preferences.

How nice of them, behind my back.

I think i latched onto the end of the conversation but here it is anyway.

It was Alex who said, "Did you notice something about Rowan?"

Steven : "Huh, what?"

Alex : "Well, he fell asleep when we were watching porn."

*Silence*

Alex : "You would have thought he'd be interested in it, no?"

Steven : "I dunno, maybe he was just tired"

Alex : "Well, to tell you the truth.....i've wondered for a while if maybe he was.....gay"

*I'm petrified at this point*

Steven : "Nah, he's not one of them, he's not a bum-bandit"

*Ha*

Alex : "I'm not sure"

Steven : "He better not be"

And with tht it ended, although we did talk together later about school and stuff....nothing was mentioned but i wasn't getting much sleep after that.

I just felt like yelling at Steven.
Not so much at Alex coz i don't know where he stands on it, but it's a dead-cert with Steven. He wouldn't be happy if he knew.
Alex is one of the only two people i've ever thought about confiding in it with, but now i'm having second thoughts.

Either way, i'm not looking forward to seeing them tomorrow.....in school.

Which brings me nicely to school actually.

This holiday has just flown by, wasn't the most enjoyable holiday, was nice to relax but tomorrow marks the start of the so-called "Term of hell"

Tests, Prelims, Studying, Exam Preparation.

And the rest.

It's gonna be tough, and as i've said previously, my posts may be limited in the next few months. Although i've done okay so far i don't know how bad things might get.

I have my Spanish speaking exam on the same day as the Wolfmother concert in a few weeks. And the prelims start at the end of this month. The final exams start at the end of April, are spread throughout May and finish in early June.

So i fully expect to be bombarded with work.

Wow. It's come quick.

That's really all i've got to say for now,
I've got to go and prepare for tomorrow, oh joy, i'll probably post again a couple of times this week and i'll let you all know if/when it's getting tough to do so.

Cheers,
Rowan
