Yes, This is a Music Post...

I like this blog not just being about gay issues and what not, coz im very keen on music and i enjoy giving my opinions on it, and discussing it as well.

Luckily, this is a combination of both xD

It's about British band, The Feeling, who (if you live outside of Britain) probably havent of and if you live in Britain, probably haven't heard of in a few years.

The reason for posting about The Feeling is this article on Pink News about lead singer Dan Gillespie Sells (what does he sell?) - http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2011/03/07/interview-dan-gillespie-sells-on-music-cricket-and-helicopters/

I've heard a few of The Feeling's songs before and thought they were ok, but until i read this article i did not know he was gay.

This newly acquired knowledge pushed me to find them on Spotify, as well as the fact i'd never listened to them properly. Also, i love songs that i can relate to and thought this would be a great opportunity - gay lyricist, gay meanings in songs, indentification for me! Yay xD

Well, i have to say The Feeling are great...

lyrically.

It is such a shame their music doesn't quite live upto it coz if it did, i swear, they would be one of my favourite bands. They are really a pop band, and im much more into rock but i find a few of their songs pretty decent, particularly off their first album. Their second album... not so much.

But yes, t'is a shame that i love their lyrics and not really the actual music. I look for it in a lot of bands, but overall id say the music is more important. Great lyrics, for me, just make the song better (obviously) but if the song itself sounds good and i enjoy it then the lyrics tend to take a backseat.

The Feeling are the reverse however. Great lyrics, average pop songs.

Im not saying i could write better than them but it's nice to have lyrics i can identify with, which is why i love Queen so much as i do. Freddie, gay --> gay meanings in songs --> identification, along with great music.

It's weird with The Beatles tho, coz most of their songs are about girls (or a great number of them are) but there's just an example of liking the band more for the actual songs than the lyrics - although Within You Without You has lyrics you could live your life by xD

Anyway, im sure you get the point. I just thought id talk about how The Feeling let me down a little. I got quite excited after i found them on Spotify. One last point about them: the guitarist is really under used. Some songs he shows off some pretty impressive skills and that also annoys me in a band. For example, The Killers. Their guitarist displays little bits of awesome that im sure if the lead songwriter incorporated more, would make for better songs, and it's the same with The Feeling.

Guess it's a case of LSD however - Lead Singer's Disease.

The Feeling have their new album out soon so i guess i'll give it a chance but it'll be the last :P

For the time being, here is one of their better songs. It's a very bitter sweet tune - it's quite chilled and happy, but lyrically, deals with the subject of the lead singer's problem in falling for straight guys, and really just having to act like this person is simply a friend to them.
The line, "I can't be your friend, unless i pretend" being the stand-out line.
Yep, i know where you're coming from there, Danny boy.

Give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it

Give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it

'Cos you got my heart in a headlock

You stopped the blood, made my head soft

And god knows

You got me sewn

Nah nah nah

Danny boy, don't be afraid, to shake that ass, and misbehave

Danny boy, I know you got time, but what are you waiting for,

Anyway the dust may just blow away, if you wait for a windy day

But you may find the chance has passed you by

I can't do the walk

I can't do the talk

I can't be your friend

Unless I pretend

So give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it

So give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it

Cos you got my heart in a headlock

You stopped the blood, made my head soft

And god knows

You've got me sewn

Nah nah nah

Danny boy, don't be a fool

Take upon to break the rule

Danny boy your lookin so low

You lookin like the dead grown old

Anyway the blues just may wash away, if you wait for a rainy day

But you may find, the chance had past you by

I can't do the walk

I can't do the talk

I can't be your friend

Unless I pretend

So give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it

Give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it

Cos you got my heart in a headlock

You stopped the blood and made my head soft

You've got my heart in a headlock

You stopped the blood and made my head soft

made my head soft

made my head soft

made my head soft

made my head soft

Yeah, yeah, yeah

oh Yeah, yeah, yeah.

BBC Live 24 Hour Panel Shows

Just posting this in case anyone's interested.

The BBC are hosting live panel shows right now for Red Nose Day/Comic Relief. The good thing is that it's not just UK as it is for most BBC things online, you can get it worldwide!

So, if anyone wants a good dollop of British comedy, tune in. Im personally looking forward to Argumental (at 10:30pm) and QI at midnight, as well as Mock the Week which is on right now, but it runs until midday tomorrow - British time.

Also, David Walliams is appearing on everyone one of the shows, over 24 hours. That's quite impressive, and i respect him a lot for it. I will be donating some money later, hope some of you all do as well! ;)

The all important link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/rednoseday/24hourpanelpeople/

And the schedule - http://www.bbc.co.uk/rednoseday/24hourpanelpeople/schedule.shtml (all British time of course)

Enjoy!

Hectic Week

This week has been nothing short of crazy (bullshit)

I've had prelims every morning this week and as early as Tuesday i thought it was Friday but that was probably because what my head wanted.

Monday i had English close reading which went fairly well.
Music listening on Tuesday was hit and miss coz im not so good at the listening part of the subject.
Same with french the day after, im not so good at listening but the essay went well i think.
Media on Thursday was just a case of write as much as you can in the best order you can which im fairly confident i did.
And today was spanish listening so again, hit and miss but essay was fine.

This is practically the first time ive sat down all week and done what ive really wanted. The xbox hasnt been on since last weekend, tv has rarely been on and ive just been looking at books and sleeping for most of the week. It hasn't been nice.

Today was even worse coz i was supposed to be getting a ticket to go see Queens of the Stone Age in May. I told my mum on Monday and she was happy to get it coz they went on sale while i was in school but when i woke up she bascially told me it wasnt her problem or her ticket and she wasn't getting it. I was pretty pissed off but even more so when i got home to find they had bloody sold out. Didn't think they would.

I hate when ive no gigs to look forward to, it's depressing. I need something big to look to, something to work towards and at the moment i have nothing.

The next few weeks dont get much better than this one. There's one more prelim left and im sure they've left it to last for a reason. English timed essays, two of them. Total hell. Without a doubt the most difficult part of all the subjects im studying coz this is what has to be revised the most, known inside out, back to front, loop the loop etc.
If you don't know it, you're screwed and thats the way i feel right now.

It isn't just english on Monday but my final bass exam on Wednesday and my Spanish speaking final exam on Friday so its difficult concentrating on just english but i guess i'll have to sacrifice them and put english first, then Spanish and my bass last coz obviously im a complete virtuoso and it's going to be brilliant no matter what ;)

We've also been talking about subjects for next year and it's just way over my head. The school likes you to choose subjects appropriate to your "career" which is a whole other matter to deal with. I've no idea what i want to do after school so i guess i need to see one of those adviser people.
The only thing i definetely know i want to study next year is one language, but you have to pick four subjects in total. Id probably leave Spanish and its a tie between advanced french or the newly introduced Italian course.
Tbh, i'd be more incline for Italian coz it would be a THIRD language at a higher level which looks good on any CV and also, Bryan made noise about taking it as well much to my surprise as he hates French xD
So, im probably doing Italian :P

No idea for the other three tho.

But yeah, essentially, this is probably the height of stress this year in school coz the prelims are every day, there's subject choices to think about, and there's not even any study leave. At least during the exams, there is study leave, you've picked your subjects and the exams are spaced out.

I swear, if i make it through the next couple of months without some sort of mental breakdown, it'll be a fecking miracle coz let's face it, it's not just school problems ive got to deal with :/

Anyhoo, speaking of spaced out, ive been listening to The Doors properly for the first time and im absolutely loving it. So trippy.
Dunno what my favourites are yet, most are good so here's a comparison between The Doors' "Back Door Man" which clearly had an influence on The White Stripes "Rag and Bone" (shame they split up as well, woulda loved to have seen them live...)

I Have One Question and One Question Only...

Where the fuck is everyone going?

Since the start of the year, four blogs i read on a regular basis have disappeared, their owners have shut them down and went with them - Im sure im not the only one to have picked up on this.

- Gabe
- DJ
- Lauren
- Jack (http://confrontingtheconfused.blogspot.com/2011/02/goodbye.html)

Not to mention Mirrorboy left, i think, at the beginning of the year as well (although his blog still remains open)
It's just that this time last year, things were so exciting, fast, busy and happy and now look at it.
I know my posts aren't regular but Blogger, it seems, once a vibrant, fertile community is slowly becoming a dreary, barren wasteland.

My Chemical Romance Gig

Before we go any further, i want to make one thing straight: Out of all the gigs ive been to, id probably say this was the least enjoyable.
The band put on a great show and it was still a good gig but for a concert night as a whole, it's probably the worst i've experienced.

So i think i said i was going with Bryan... anyway, i did.
However, Bryan decided (or perhaps his friend did) that it would be a good idea for said friend to come along. This friend... really, he's a bad influence, particularly on Bryan.
He smokes, so Bryan does.
He calls things "gay" so Bryan does.
There's a list, i guess he's ok but he's not the kind of guy id be whooping for joy to hang out with. He'd probably say the same about me but I don't know what Bryan sees in him at all, coz he certainly doesn't seem like a good friend.

Anyhoo, the appearance of this friend lead to what probably annoyed me the most. Some background: Few months ago, Bryan and I were somehow on the topic of smoking and we both pretty much agreed that it was pointless and a waste of money.
Yeh.
3 separate occasions did Bryan and his friend leave the concert hall for a cigarette. I felt rather let down.
If he wants to smoke, shorten his life, make his teeth yellow, make himself stink, then fine, i'm not going to argue with that. It's fucking stupid but if he wants to do it then im not going to stop him.
I'm annoyed because, yeh, he lied to me.
If he had just said that time "Oh, actually i smoke" or something then id have just went with his decision, not argued. Although in fairness, it probably would have been difficult to say that during the conversation, a lot more easier to just agree.

Anyhoo, there was a point after one of the support bands played (btw The Blackout are absolutely shit, first band - Lost Alone were ok) when i was alone with Bryan and i said, "Hey man, im not angry with you or anything but why did you lie to me about the smoking?"
Obviously, putting him on the spot he stammered about and said he thought i knew.
I told him i didn't, and basically told him what ive said above. - Its his choice and thats fine - but i told him why i really disagree with it strongly, because smoking killed both of my dad's parents at very young ages and to an extent, my mum's dad as well.
He said sorry but i told him he didn't need apologise, just that he needn't of lied in the first place.
An awkward few moments ensued, but i had to clear the tension, "Im sorry man, if i annoyed you there, but i just didnt know, im not annoyed at you either... we still friends?"
"Yeah man" he replied and i got a little hug :)

Not long after that, MCR were on and the reason i didn't enjoy as much were for 4 reasons.
1. We were fairly far away (due to leaving the crowd several times for a cigarette)
2. I knew the words to literally a few songs (Teenagers, Na Na Naa, I'm Not Okay) so except from those i was just an onlooker i guess.
3.They didn't play my favourite, Bulletproof Heart :/
4. The whole thing with Bryan was still in the back of my head.
However, MCR had pretty good energy as a band and played their songs well. I at least recognised most of them.

I'm gonna say, the biggest disappointment was really what i first mentioned: Bryan's friend. I do get on with him, but im really indifferent to him, personally. It was his appearance that ruined most of the night.
I bought my ticket originally, not because it was MCR playing but honestly because Bryan was going and i thought id be able to spend a good night with him. I still did, but just not in the way i would have liked.

Perhaps i had too many expectations after the amazing concert that was Biffy Clyro back in November, with Bryan also, but this night just didn't live upto it.

Hopefully another time will come. Apparently Foo Fighters are in talks for a UK tour and Bryan said he'd be interested so maybe then.

I still got a good hug from Bryan at the end when we had to go. His friend's dad was giving him a lift (but not me...yeh...) and i had to rely on the train. Bryan gave me a hug and some money for a taxi in case i didn't catch my train, so at least there's some positive to gain from this :P

Gotta return his money tho coz i did catch my train. /typical

Anyhoo, i suppose this was all a bit ranty and i guess i'll still be a bit hurt for a while in the knowledge that Bryan did openly lie to me but I did still enjoy my night. Maybe not as much as other concerts for various reasons but im sure there will be another time. But now, i must really go to bed coz school starts back tomorrow and so do Prelims. Joy, i'm sure i'll be bright eyed and bushy tailed for that in the morning... yeh, right.

Anonymous Fuckery

"No you were right about Rowan. He isn't a nice person. He really only cares about himself and his boring, negative little life and boring little blog. I've watched him dismiss a couple of "friends" recently with not a care in the world.
One who sees clearly"

http://raron-raron.blogspot.com/2010/10/i-cant-take-this-anymore.html

Ooh, someone was feeling bitchy this evening :P

But dont you just love anonymous trolls? I mean, they say something (generally a bad remark) but what they say is rendered pointless by the fact that they dont put a FUCKING NAME ON THEIR COMMENT.
In doing so, you, Mr... Cunt, your point is totally invalid and you really don't do any justice for yourself. Clearly you don't have the balls to put your name on it. You're writing style is very familiar and i've a fair idea who this is but it would be very foolish of me to say on here.

On the other hand, i could be entirely wrong and its someone ive never talked to before, but ive a good 3 or 4 people on my list that i find it most likely to be. The point is irrelevant, you're fuckery means nothing to me coz you're just hiding away. You're nothing.

Anyway, as a more... in depth response.
- Yeh, i dont claim to be a good person, i know im not, ive done some terrible things, but who, as a human has not?
- A wise friend once said to me, "put yourself before others" which is a selfish thing, but the lack of respect and disregard i feel for others at the moment really means i couldn't care less, certainly not about you and your shit.
- My life is negative, i'll give you that, but you're not really making it much worse. Your crap is insanely insignifcant compared to what i've been through the past couple of weeks.
- My blog? It's me. That's all it is. One person out of the near 7 billion on this planet. Same as every other fucker's blog. So, yeh, its not going to be a grand, majestic masterpiece, and i dont intend for it to be.
But by the same token, you're merely expressing an opinion, one you're perfectly entitled to. And opinions don't have a right or wrong. To whoever reads this... meh, you'll have your own opinions as well and whether you like my blog or not, there must be something that makes you want to return, same for you, anonymous. You clearly follow this blog in some depth if you claim it is so "boring"

But now the biggy.

The online world is WAY WAY WAY different to the offline world, and im not going to lie, the offline world means more to me right now. I have a lot of shit going on in the offline world, a lot bigger shit than some anonymous cunt in the online world.
Friends come and go on both.
I stopped hanging out with who i thought were friends back in September, in the offline world and it certainly benefited me, so do you think i care as much about some people ive "dismissed" who's faces i've never seen and whose voices i've never heard?
Notcie how many days it was between my last two posts? Nearly two weeks. Clear how much i care now about the online, compared to the offline world?

I know you're reading this, and you'll be saying, "you clearly do care if you've written such a lengthy response"
Well, horseshit.
I wrote this, not to create mass condemnation of what you've said, oh not at all, im sure there are folk out there who agree with you. But i have wrote this to say if you want to criticise me and for me to take your point, then say it to me. Don't hide behind the old anonymous routine like a coward. You could comment on this post if you like, with a name. Not that i expect you're brave enough but you could surprise me, id love it.

I want to make it clear that at the moment my main priority is me and i dont give one shit how selfish that is. The past few months have been farily rocky and this week has seen an all time low. Again, offline world, and dont even attempt to think you've succeeded in making my shit week any worse coz im not letting some coward like you distract me from what is more important, i just thought a public reply would be interesting to see the reaction it provokes in you. If it doesn't provoke anything, good. If it does, equally good. Im not going to care either way. But you must feel so great knowing you can hide behind the anonymous shield, clever you, want a medal?
Oh, you also need to get a life and grow some balls.

My best regards, Anonymous.

P.S Paul was fantastic! Unfortunately, the cast weren't there as they were attending a more high profile premiere in Dublin but they recorded a clip to say they were sorry they couldn't attend and they hope we enjoy the film etc.
As for the film... i've not laughed so hard in ages, Id certainly recommend seeing the film when its released especially if you're quite a geek and like your sci-fi :P

Paul

...Is the name of the movie im going to see tomorrow xD

"Hang on!" You might say, it doesn't come out till the 14th in the UK...

Well, i think i've mentioned it before but if i haven't, Rob is a BIG movie fan, and so happened to come by two tickets for an advanced screening with the cast and crew of the film tomorrow!

He told me beforehand and i said if he could get two tickets id love to go, he did, and here we are :D

I've known for a while but thought id post about it now coz im really looking forward to it. Imagining meeting Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and even Seth Rogen is just mind-blowing. It's weird that it's a possibility but it is.

The next week is actually going to be really weird. Prelims start next Wednesday so this weekend will consist of a lot of studying but next week i will be seeing My Chemical Romance as well. Ok, im not a great fan, and its just lucky i found i enjoyed their new album after having bought a ticket to go and see them.
Id never really heard them before and dismissed them as "emo shit" which, their first 3 albums are but their new one doesn't even sound like their old stuff which is good.

So why did i buy a tickets knowing i didnt really like them?

Coz Bryan did, he loves them xD

Sad much? Nah, live gigs always have a good atmosphere so i get that, plus knowing a few songs, plus spending the night with Bryan. Should be pretty awesome.

But as for tomorrow night. It's rather funny, Rob has been building this up as a little "date" :P
It's obvious he has some sort of crush on me and im not saying that in a boastful way but its quite funny.

You're probably going, "What!? Now's your chance!" But, Rob isn't my kind of guy (in that sense) and im truthfully not his kind either. We're friends and i like it at that level, i couldnt see us in a relationship coz it would last literally a few hours before he annoyed the hell out of me (he's a very opinionated character indeed and doesnt really let anyone have an opinion that isn't the same as his - kinda obnoxious i guess), but im sure i can look past that and enjoy tomorrow night!

I've decided to make this a "happy" post coz ive had a particularly "unhappy" day so im trying my best to get by and look forward to what i can. I have a lot i could rant and whine about right now, a real lot. And i found something out today id really rather not have. But i'll best save all of that bullshit for another post. Perhaps in the middle of exams when i feel i can't go on any further. I'd say we're at the beginning of that stage right about now so maybe in a month or two we'll reach the middle. Who knows. We'll see. For now, just be happy with the happy post ;)

Rowan <3

I honestly hate the first 3 MCR albums but their sell-out on this album is a good thing. They actually sound worth listening to, and the lead singer doesn't sound half as whiney. Bulletproof Heart is easily one of the best songs they've ever wrote. Try and enjoy!
